About Rebecca Higgins
Clinical Director. EMDR Consultant. Clinical Supervisor. Presenter.
Meet Rebecca
I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Psychotherapist, EMDR Consultant, Clinical Supervisor, and the founder and Clinical Director of The Radiant Group.
I am currently completing a Master of Science in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy) at the University of Sydney, where my studies focus on attachment, relational psychotherapy, trauma recovery, and the processes that facilitate lasting therapeutic change.
My path to clinical practice wasn't a straight line. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a senior interior designer and later owned and operated an agricultural enterprise that incorporated equine-assisted psychotherapy programs. Those experiences gave me something no textbook could: a deep appreciation for the ways people are shaped by their environments, relationships, and life experiences, along with a practical understanding of systems, complexity, and human resilience.
Today, those foundations continue to inform how I think, teach, supervise, and work alongside practitioners.
My Clinical Philosophy
I believe supervision is not about providing answers. It is about creating the conditions in which therapists become better thinkers, develop greater confidence in their clinical judgement, and discover their own authentic therapeutic voice.
My work is grounded in the belief that therapeutic technique, while important, is never enough on its own. Lasting clinical development occurs when theory, relationship, reflective practice, and lived clinical experience come together.
My supervision is informed by attachment theory, Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy, EMDR, trauma theory and contemporary neuroscience. Rather than teaching rigid formulas, I aim to help practitioners develop the capacity to think deeply about the unique person sitting in front of them.
Whether we are exploring complex trauma, relational dynamics, countertransference or case conceptualisation, my role is not to tell you what to do. It is to think alongside you, helping you tolerate uncertainty, deepen your understanding, and strengthen your confidence as a clinician.
Because ultimately, the goal of supervision is not simply to create competent therapists. It is to help therapists become thoughtful, reflective practitioners whose clinical work continues to grow throughout their careers.
My Research
My current research explores the integration of relational psychotherapy and EMDR in the treatment of trauma.
At the heart of this work is a question that has fascinated me throughout my career: how do people reorganise their sense of self following trauma?
My research examines how therapeutic relationship and memory processing may work together to support trauma recovery, emotional regulation, relational change, and a stronger sense of personal agency.
Drawing on attachment theory, psychodynamic psychotherapy, contemporary trauma treatment, and emerging neuroscience, this work explores the conditions that support meaningful and lasting change.
While grounded in research, this is not simply an academic pursuit. The questions I explore directly inform my approach to supervision, training, case conceptualisation, and therapist development.
How I Work
Whether I am supervising, teaching, consulting, or working clinically, my approach is grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and deep respect for the complexity of human experience.
I integrate Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT), attachment-informed and relational approaches, trauma theory, and EMDR to support meaningful and sustainable change. My work is informed by a bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective, recognising that people are shaped by far more than symptoms alone.
